Greetings!
I am delighted to announce two exciting pieces of news at ShelterCare. First is the launch of our new website. It is designed for clients, professionals, friends and supporters to easily and quickly find the information you need about ShelterCare and to keep up with our events, openings and activities. I hope you will browse through the site, enjoy what you learn, and visit – often. You’ll find newsletters, important program information, and more, as well as a chance to meet families and individuals whose lives have been changed through access to ShelterCare housing.
The second piece of news is our new home. In July, ShelterCare moved to 499 W 4th Avenue, a former warehouse in the heart of the historic Whiteaker neighborhood. The new space gives us, for the first time, a chance to bring together our staff under one roof. I think it will be a great opportunity for collaboration and idea-sharing. Right now it’s a field of dreams – an empty warehouse built in the 1930s with cracked linoleum, tired paint, and brown paneling. But in my mind’s eye I see “housing central” – a place for families, volunteers, clients and staff to find solutions that benefit our community. The Whiteaker district has a colorful past, a diverse and lively culture, and is full of energy today. I feel like this is the perfect place for us.
Watch this space for information about plans for the space, upcoming projects, and an invitation to take a tour later this fall.
Warmly,
Susan Ban
Executive Director
