Through ShelterCare's Supported Employment Services
program, ShelterCare residents who wish to work are helped to find and
retain competitive employment after a thorough planning and benefit
screening process. Those already working, or with extensive work
history, receive career development counseling to improve their skills
and further develop work goals.
Since this program began in 2001 with a grant from the U
of O, ShelterCare has built partnerships with several area
businesses. Employers who hire participants may also benefit from
training and on-site consultation and advice from trained staff.
Employers may be eligible to receive a "Work Opportunity Tax
Credit" from a special program through the Oregon Employment
Department. For more information on the benefits of hiring your
next employee through the ShelterCare Supported Employment Program,
contact Cheryl Jeanneret, Bea Morrison or Maureen MacDonnel at 686-1262
or step@sheltercare.org .
Employment Wanted
Most residents involved in Vocational Services are
seeking employment for 1 to 10 hours a week. Although each
individual has unique skills, talents and career aspirations, the
following is a sampling of ongoing jobs requested by
residents:
·
Custodial work
·
Animal Care Assistant
·
Clerical support (filing, sorting, etc.)
·
Plant care/nursery work
·
Restaurant support work (dishwashing,
cleaning, bussing tables)
Our Employment Specialists work to target the specific
needs of each individual and work closely with employers to create
successful matches. Support does not stop once a placement is
made, either for the employee or the employer, and Supported Employment
Services continue to serve as a liaison, striving for a successful
partnership and job
retention.
