Good friends with flowers
Business owner and ShelterCare supporter Shirley Lyons knows how to “say it with flowers.”
Stocking up red roses for the Rose Bowl, Lyons and her staff partnered with Staff Jennings Boating Centers who hosted a stand to sell flowers to the crowds entering Autzen Stadium for the 2009 Civil War game. Proceeds from the sale were dedicated to ShelterCare.
As a fundraiser, it was not a hit – fans from both teams were reluctant to buy roses, fearing they would jinx their chances. But as a community outreach event, it was a winner. Lyons and her crew were able to reach out to a vast audience in person and in television coverage promoting ShelterCare’s work for the homeless.
