ShelterCare is devoted restoring the independence and dignity of people in the community who need help in stabilizing their lives. Through our programs and services, we strive to relieve the personal costs of homelessness to the individuals and families within our community, and to reduce the negative impact on the community and costs to the medical and emergency services that are incurred by chronically homeless adults.
Why Care About Homelessness?
The health of our community depends on the collaboration and contributions of all of our citizens working together. By investing in people who cannot recover their stability without support, ShelterCare helps people create the community we all want, a community in which everyone can thrive.
Local. Proven. Effective.
Since 1970, we have offered housing and supportive services to people who are homeless or facing homelessness. ShelterCare’s mission is to shelter and support families and individuals, providing each with the opportunity to live the fullest life possible in an environment that fosters well-being and success. Each service we provide is individualized because each person is unique. We help people regain success and achieve independence.
Many of our programs are designed using the Housing First model, a strategy based on evidence that people cannot address the cause of their homelessness until they have a safe and stable place to live.
ShelterCare provides more than shelter: our programs restore independence and stability. Our case managers help clients address the issues associated with their homelessness including social alienation, mental illness, poverty, trauma, substance abuse and medical problems.
