Our residential programs help move individuals and families toward greater levels of independence.
EMERGENCY SERVICES:
Emergency Shelter & Support
Homeless families with children find shelter and support at Family Housing Program in Eugene and Brethren Housing in Springfield. Over 70% of families who complete their stays leave the shelters for stable housing.
- The programs serve families in 21 individual apartment units for up to 60 days. Some families are allowed to stay for up to 6 months to increase their stability and long-term success.
- Families access the shelters through a centralized waiting list that serves all area shelters for families..
- The wait for shelter is often between eight and twelve weeks long.
- Once in shelter, families live in furnished apartment units.
- Staff assist families with job and housing searches.
Each family in residence is provided:
- food
- clothing
- household necessities
- school supplies
- school supplies
- household appliances
- linens
- cleaning materials
Shelter staff work to maintain a safe and secure shelter environment for all families.
Additional programs, services, and staff advocacy are available to families to promote a successful transition to long term housing in the community. These include:
- skill-building workshops
- referral to counseling
- employment support
- individual advocacy for families with community services
- special needs funds (such as employment or medical)
- housing assistance funds are available to augment a family’s savings for rental deposit and fee costs as they leave shelter
A Children’s Program at the Eugene shelter site provides :
- on-site respite care
- activities and events for children of all ages
- activities and events for families
- on site parenting classes
